ABSTRACT
The prime objective of this study is to examine the trend, pattern, sprawl as wellas socio-environmental implications of land use dynamics in dormitory towns of Tai-solarin university of Education (Tasued), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria. The study employed the use of GIS to explore the dynamics of land use in the dormitory communities of TAI-SOLARIN UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION namely: Ijagun, Ijele, Abapawa, Imaweje, and Ogbo herein referred to as larger Ijagun. Two different years of satelite imageries 2007&2013 were used. This study has helped to understand that physical planning of regional development projects is also a key to sustainable rural development. The study also revealed that the existence of TASUED has no doubt brought about great improvement on economic development and social aspects of its communities but there is evidence of poor physical planning of infrastructural facilities and unplanned building patterns and structures as well as environmental problems like poor drainage system. Also, the existence of TASUED did not influence good and standard motorable roads within the surrounding communities. Therefore, a number of suggestions were made which include the inclusion of the communities in the university physical planning programmes as they remainthe hostels for the university.
